There are a number of resources that can support you in improving air quality in your community. Check out the resources below and visit the linked websites for eligibility requirements and availability.
Install an Air Purifier
Installing air purifiers or high-quality air filters on heating and cooling systems help reduce air pollution, and its associated negative health impacts, in your home.
The AIRE Program provides a free air purifier and filter to eligibile households in the City of San Diego communities of Otay Mesa West, San Ysidro, Egger Highlands, Nestor, and Tijuana River Valley, and the City of Imperial Beach.
Ride E-Bikes
Electronic bikes, or e-bikes are powered by rechargeable batteries, so they do not burn fuel. This means they don’t release any harmful pollutants into the environment when in use.
The California E-Bike
Incentive Project provides up to $2,000 of point-of-sale
incentives to support the purchase of a new electric bicycle (e-bike).
E-Bike Incentive vouchers will be granted to California residents who
are 18 years or older that meet the defined income
requirements.
Weatherize your Home
Weatherization improves energy efficiency. It decreases the need for heating and cooling, reducing energy costs and lowering power plant emissions and associated air pollution.
California Weatherization Assistance Program reduces heating and cooling costs. To be eligible for this benefit program, you must be a low-income resident of California.
Drive an E-Car
Electronic cars, or e-cars do not burn fossil fuels to run. Unlike traditional fuel-burning cars, e-cars don’t release harmful pollutants into the environment when in use.
Clean Cars 4 All (CC4A) is an incentive program offered to income-qualified residents in disadvantaged communities. The program provides grants to help residents retire their old vehicles and replace them with zero or near-zero emission vehicle or transit cards.
Plant and Care for a Tree
Trees and other plants use and store carbon dioxide, a main source of air pollution. Through this process, trees take carbon dioxide out of the air we breathe, helping to clean the air.
The City of San Diego's Urban Forestry department is busy planting and caring for trees in San Diego. Their Ready, Set, Grow San Diego program will plant 5,000 trees over five years.
Through Trees for Communities, residents of identified Priority Areas in the City of San Diego can request a street tree be planted and cared for in their community.
