As part of the Community Air Protection Program (CAPP or AB 617), Air Monitoring in the AB 617 International Border Community is guided by the Community Air Monitoring Plan (CAMP). It was developed with the input of community members and participants in the International Border Community Steering Committee, who helped identify local air quality concerns.
The CAMP outlines how and where pollution data are collected and how this information is shared with the community by the San Diego County Air Pollution Control District's (SDAPCD) Community Air Monitoring Team .
In the International Border area, the following types of air pollution are being monitored: hydrogen sulfide, airborne toxic metals, volatile organic compounds, Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, and Xylene (BTEX), and diesel particulate matter, measured through organic and elemental carbon (OCEC) in fine particulate matter (PM₂.₅) and black carbon.
SDAPCD operates four community monitoring sites in the International Border communities. The map below shows the site locations and the chart indicates what is being monitored where.
