Air Quality Basics

Font Size Extra LargeFont Size LargeFont Size Default

Air pollution is a general term used to describe undesirable amounts of particulate or gaseous substances in the atmosphere.  The primary focus of the San Diego Air Pollution Control District is to reduce air pollution to levels that have been established to protect public health.  Although reduced visibility may be the more obvious effect of air pollution, the health problems it causes are by far more serious.
