The District conducted a short term air
quality study in 2008 to measure levels of fine particulate
matter (PM2.5) at two schools in
the City Heights area of San Diego near
SR-15 in response to public concerns
about commercial trucking.
In addition, air monitoring for carbon
monoxide (CO) was conducted at Teralta
Park in City Heights to determine the
safety of the park deck for public use.
Although a consultant conducted this
study, the District performed all the necessary
quality control and quality assurance
tasks to validate the CO data.
The District compared the CO and
PM2.5 levels measured in the City Heights
neighborhood to the corresponding levels
of these pollutants found elsewhere in San
Diego County. The study found that, overall,
the air quality is good and pollutant
levels exhibit similar patterns to other
locations in the region.
